From the Pen of Kymone Freeman

Now in our 13th year, the spiritual significance that it carries, we have sought to solidify by launching Social Art and Culture (SAAC), the non-profit for NBLF - see our Workshops. You will see SAAC taking a leadership role in offering different art workshops and seminars, art showcases and other methods of education and enlightenment that will build an aperature of artists for social change called "design activists." Our vision is to close the gaps within our fragmented communities and widening the scope of our collective artistic view.

NBLF has grown and now seeks to give voice to THE NATIONALLY. A quick study of our history reveals that our work of combining art with activism is not an innovation but a mere continuation of trails blazed by the Watts Stax Festival in 1972, which was the largest black concert in history, and the National Black Political Convention of the same year in Gary, Indiana that was convened by a mayor, a congressman and a poet. In order for this to be done, we need the support of the entire community to amplify independent voices. Not just financial support but the willingness of all those of vision who recognize the fierce urgency to do something NOW!

Along side our award winning AIDS Mobilization, Eco-Green Programs and Health Pavilions; we plan to launch initiatives that will make BOLD and RADICAL impressions. #1 "The Artist Campaign to Save Black Radio" and shaming radio stations that target black and brown consumers to play independent music. BUT WE CAN'T DO IT ALONE. To accomplish anything in our lifetime worth leaving for our children and the unprepared generation behind us, I suggest we get busy or admit we are simply afraid to do the work.

So mark your calendar for September 19, 2010! Plan to spend the day not just 1 hour with us and get excited about what you will see in the coming months - just look from the left and right of this email!
